‘A Man of No Importance’ To Make His Debut in Capital's Cabaret Theatre Nov. 16-19

Capital University Theatre will present “A Man of No Importance” Thursday, Nov. 16, through Sunday, Nov. 19, in the Cabaret Theatre.

Based on a film that featured Albert Finney, this new musical was created by Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens – the same team that created “Ragtime.” Ahrens and Flaherty also wrote Capital’s recent productions “Seussical” and “Lucky Stiff.”

“A Man of No Importance” tells the story of Alfie Byrne, a middle-aged, unmarried bus driver in 1964 Dublin.  As his bus clatters through the early morning streets, Alfie recites the poetry of Oscar Wilde for his passengers. While his sister and his friends try to help him find romance, Alfie pursues his one great passion – the community theatre he directs in the basement of St. Imelda’s. Through his triumphs and heartbreaks, Alfie discovers the real truth of the advice he has given to one of his actresses – “You just have to love who you love.” Theatre Program Director Bill Kennedy will direct this small gem of a musical.

Thursday through Saturday performances start at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s performance begins at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are free for students with a current Capital I.D. For ticket information, please call (614) 236-7174.
