(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--Capital University senior offensive lineman
Steve Leppert (Cincinnati/Princeton) is a 2006 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American College Division First Team Football selection.
Leppert, a two-time Academic All-District IV and two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, is the seventh football player in school history to garner Academic All-American honors. Leppert is the only player from the OAC on the Academic All-American first team.
On the field, Leppert was the starting the left guard for one of the nation's top offenses as the Crusaders have the fourth best passing offense and rank 10th in scoring in all of NCAA Division III. Leppert was a starter in 2004, sat out the entire 2005 season with an injury and has not played since the eighth game of the season where he suffered a season-ending injury. Off the field, the senior Marketing and Management major maintains a 3.90 grade point average.
In order to be named an Academic All-American, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve and maintain a minimum of a 3.20 grade point average. The College Division includes all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA institutions. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select the squad.
