Capital Students Stay ‘Up ’Til Dawn’ Saturday Night to Close St. Jude Fund-Raising Campaign

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007–A Capital University student group will learn Saturday night that it raised more than $32,000 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at Up ’Til Dawn, the finale event of a student-led fund-raising campaign that beat the previous year’s tally by more than $6,000.

Representatives from St. Jude’s officially will announce the campaign total at the event, which will take place from 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, to 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in The Capital Center, located on Capital’s main campus, 1 College and Main in Bexley.

The all-nighter will feature karaoke, volleyball, basketball and board games, Red Bull Xbox game lounge, music, dancing, and food and raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Up ’Til Dawn is a student philanthropy group whose members dedicate their time and energy to raising funds to support pediatric cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. In this final campaign effort of the year, students will pledge to stay awake “’til dawn” in recognition of all the parents who stay awake to tend to their sick children.

Under the direction of Executive Director Matt Ramsey and Assistant Director Kelly Misselwitz, the group also has put on major events such as the Lord of the Wings wing-eating contest in September and the All-Team Meeting in October. In only its second year as a Capital University student activity, Up ’Til Dawn drew support from more than 200 Capital students who took part in letter-writing campaigns asking friends and family members for donations, and organized and participated in campaign events.

The following local businesses also supported the students’ efforts by donating the raffle prizes and food:

• Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar donated 800 wings and gift cards;
• Donatos of Bexley donated 20 pizzas;
• Panera Bread donated gift cards and 75 bagels with cream cheese;
• El Vaquero Restaurants donated gift cards;
• Red Bull sponsored the Xbox game lounge;
• Capital University Bookstore donated gift certificates; and
• St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital donated merchandise.
