Nate Anders

Nathan Anders started playing professionally in Columbus after being accepted into Capital University’s Conservatory of music, studying privately under Bob Breithaupt, Jim Ed Cobbs and Eric Paton. While in school, Nate played marimba each weekend in a Carribean band at the now-extinct Kahiki restaurant and lounge. He continued his marimba studies with Leigh Stevens, the innovator of the now-common four-mallet grip named after him. Nate entered the Leigh Steven’s International Marimba Competition as a senior in college and advanced to the second round of competition. Since graduating from Capital in 1999, he has continued playing gigs across the country on marimba, vibraphone, steel drum, drumset, timpani, percussion and keyboards in a wide variety of styles including jazz, latin, classical, as well as modern and popular music. Nate has played extensively in both solo and group settings, and was named “Columbus’ best young performer” by The Other Paper. He has played and recorded with many bands and musicians such as Arnette Howard’s Creole Funk Band, The Trinnidaddies, Kris Keith’s Minan Dia, Paul Brown’s Science Gravy Orchestra, Vaughn Weister’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, The Derrik DiCenzo group and currently the Royal Tycoons and “The Spike Drivers.” Nate also has been teaching at the college level since 2001, first at Mt. Vernon Nazarine University and currently at his alma mater, Capital University.
