Capital University

Sports & Recreation

Whether you're a varsity athlete, a play-for-fun jock, a casual game player, or someone who just wants to get into shape, Capital has plenty of opportunities to stay fit and competitive.

Varsity Sports

More than 300 students participate in our eight men’s and eight women’s varsity sports. The Capital Crusaders belong to the highly competitive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) in NCAA Division III. And they have claimed OAC titles in a number of sports, recently in women’s soccer, as well as three national championships.

Visit CapitalCrusaders.net to learn more about Capital's varsity sports.

Intramural Sports

You don’t need be an athletic star to get in the game at Capital. Stay in shape with Capital’s 10 intramural sports. We have three basketball leagues and two volleyball leagues, and we add more each year based on students’ requests.

You can choose from:

  • Basketball (1-on-1, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5)
  • Dodgeball
  • Flag Football
  • Floor Hockey
  • Indoor Soccer
  • Indoor Volleyball (4-on-4)
  • Sand Volleyball (2-on-2)
  • Coed Softball
  • Men’s Softball
  • Ultimate Frisbee

Athletic Facility

The Capital Center offers plenty of ways to stay fit in non-competitive settings. Jog or walk on the 200-meter NCAA competition indoor track, site of the 2003 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Or take advantage of more than 5,000 square feet dedicated to aerobics, cardiovascular training and conditioning. Our state-of-the-art Hammer Strength fitness equipment will give your strength and weight training routines a boost.

Recreation

The Campus Center is a gathering place for Capital's campus community.  There's a lot of activity in this one building.  You can shop at the bookstore, eat in the Crusader Club--a small grill to order cafe or in the Capital Court--our main dinning hall.  And you can hang out in the commuter lounge and enjoy wireless connectivity or play games in the Rec Room, which includes:

  • Pool tables
  • Ping-pong
  • Foosball
  • Video games
  • Large-screen TV with videos and cable
  • Free popcorn
  • And even several bowling lanes
