Under first-year head coach Greg Kline, Capital University's men's golf team took steps toward building a strong program in the 2005-06 season and has the young talent in place to continue to improve in 06-07.
Capital ended its season with an eighth-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference championships at Fox Meadow Country Club in Medina, Ohio. The Crusaders finished ninth in 2005.
Two sophomores and a freshman spearheaded the Crusader linksters in 2006 and all will return in 2006-07 to comprise the nucleus of Coach Kline's squad.
Sophomore Mike Ott (Columbus/Franklin Heights) was the leader from day one as his scoring average of 79.9 was tops on the team and he tied for 22nd at the OAC Championships with a two-day score of 163 (80-83).
A pair of Hilliard Davidson grads were the No. 2 and 3 players for the Crusaders. Freshman Zach Griffith ended the season with the second best scoring average (85.7) and was followed closely by sophomore Robert Bardwell (85.9).
The Crusaders lone senior, Danny Turner (Grove City/Grove City), was Capital's No.4 player with a season scoring average of 93.3.
