STUDENTS, FACULTY & STAFF SERVICES
Advocacy
We provide guidance and support to students as they seek to resolve educational and personal challenges that may affect their academic progress. Students needing assistance in situations such as a death in the family, medical or other illness, accident, and other critical incidents are encouraged to contact our office. The services include one-on-one consultation with students seeking guidance in resolving educational and personal challenges; providing assistance with academic difficulties as they relate to, absence notifications to faculty, incomplete grades, course withdrawals, medical/psychological/mental leaves/withdrawals; and connecting students with appropriate campus and community resources.
Mediation
Students are always encouraged to settle disagreements through civil discourse and honest disclosure. The Office of Student Rights and Standards provides mediation services and will provide training in alternative dispute resolution and conflict management.
Referral Services
The office has established relationships with various departments throughout campus as it helps to coordinate interventions for addressing student behavior. On occasion, referrals will be made to off campus agencies that could better address the needs of a particular student or situation.
Restorative Justice
The Restorative Justice program involves the voluntary participation of the victim, the alleged offender and/or members of the community in discussions about the alleged violation. The goals of the restorative justice program are as follows:
- Restore the relationship
- Fix the damage that has been done to the person and/or community
- Prevent further violations from occurring
The Restorative Justice approach allows participants to focus on understanding the harm that has occurred to relationships and to the community, and to decide how to best repair that harm and restore some sense of community.
Student Conduct Advising
The Director of Student Rights & Standards serves as an advisor when students are in need of information on how to address specific conduct questions and concerns. The Director provides a non threatening environment for disclosure, while serving as a campus resource and liaison between faculty, staff, students, organizations, clubs and various other campus entities.
