Columbus, Ohio, Friday, July 20, 2007–The 18th International Kodály Symposium concert series will be held in Capital University’s Mees Hall Friday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 10.

“Let All the World in Every Corner Sing” will feature seven concerts, each showcasing a different voice. Featured performers include The Alliance Chorus; The Ohio State University Men’s Glee Club; Chamber Music Connection; Capital Conservatory of Music ensemble-in-residence Carpe Diem String Quartet; Capital Conservatory faculty members Lynn Roseberry, Mark Baker, James Stokes and Tianshu Wang; World Children’s Choir; Women’s Chorus of The Kodály Institute; Mixed Ensemble of The Kodály Institute; pianist Barbara Sahr; soprano Kelley Hart; countertenor Ian Howell; and organist Paul Thornock.

Concerts are open to the public and cost $10 each, or $50 for the entire series. Tickets can be ordered by calling (614) 236-6267, or by e-mail at smathias@capital.edu.

The concert series coincides with the weeklong international symposium, where world-renowned musicians, educators and clinicians gather for presentations and lectures on music education within the Kodály philosophy. Participants study music from Australia, Canada, England, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hungary and France with interpreters who specialize in the music of these cultures.

The International Kodály Symposium is sponsored by the Organization of American Kodály Educators under the auspices of the International Kodály Society. The Kodály Institute at Capital was established in 1980 by Capital graduate Gregory Von Stein, class of 1977, and music education professor Sandra Mathias. It is one of the few schools in the United States to offer special tracks of study for elementary teachers, secondary choral music teachers, and instrumental teachers.
