Volleyball Splits a Pair to Open 2007 Season

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--Capital University's volleyball team, ranked No. 16 in the nation, opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Hiram College, then rebounded with a 3-1 win against Hanover (Ind.) College Friday at the Capital Invitational at The Capital Center.

All-American senior middle hitter Jessie Hampson (Lancaster/Lancaster) had 25 kills, a .632 hitting percentage and eight blocks to lead the Crusaders in the win over Hanover in the nightcap.  Other top performers included junior Jackie Helm (Lancaster/Fisher Catholic) had 23 digs and sophomore Allison Hostetler (Dalton/Dalton) had 11 kills.

Against Hiram, Hampson had 10 kills and five blocks, Helm had 18 digs while freshman Megan Krebs (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) had eight kills.

Capital comes back Saturday against No. 10 Calvin (Mich.) College and DePauw (Ind.) University.  The match against Calvin will be broadcast LIVE on the radio on WFCO 90.9 FM and Internet on www.capitalcrusaders.net.
