(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Capital University's volleyball team dropped its opening match Saturday against No. 10 Calvin (Mich.) College but rebounded with a victory over DePauw (Ind.) University to close out the 2007 Capital Volleyball Invitational at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Despite 17 kills and 16 digs from senior middle hitter Jessie Hampson (Lancaster/Lancaster), the No. 16 Crusaders lost a 3-1 decision to the Knights. Freshman Megan Krebs (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) added 12 kills, junior Jackie Helm (Lancaster/Fisher Catholic) had 33 digs and sophomore Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff/Fairlawn) tallied 23 assists and 12 digs.
The Crusaders picked up a 3-0 victory over the Tigers in their second match of the day, as Hampson once again led Capital with 12 kills and Krebs finished in double figures with 11. Helm recorded 34 digs and Zumberger and junior setter Kara Guster (Orrville/Orrville) combined for 40 assists in the match.
Capital returns to action with a match at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Nazarene in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
