Fraternities & Sororities at Capital

I believe in the college fraternity, creator of friendships.
I believe in its quick-sympathies, and its helping hand.
I believe in its brave idealism,
stirring every valiant emotion.
rousing every potential talent.
I believe in its compelling drive for sound scholarship.
for genuine culture.
for clear-eyed honesty.
for business integrity.
I believe in the college fraternity, maker of men.
Arthur R. Priest, Phi Delta Theta

Capitals fraternity/sorority community is composed of local and national professional, service, and general Greek-letter organizations. The fraternities and sororities belong to one of four umbrellas:

Greek Council - the umbrella organization for 6 general fraternities and sororities

National Pan-Hellenic Council - the umbrella organization for 9 national, historically African-American fraternities and sororities, three of which are represented at Capital

Professional Organizations - student organizations with Greek-letter names that are closely tied to a vocation or area of academic study

Service Organizations - student organizations with Greek-letter names that were founded for the sole purpose of contributing to the community

Greek Council Organizations

Each group is unique unto itself, while offering similar benefits of fraternity or sorority membership. All of the Greek Council organizations are local fraternities or sororities - meaning they are unique only to Capital and have their full history as part of this one campus community.

Capital University believes that every student should have at least one semester of adjustment to college life before joining a fraternity or sorority, so while organizations will use the first semester to get to know potential new members, bidding (or joining) occurs every spring. A bid is an invitation to membership and bid acceptance occurs annually in early February after a period of formal recruitment - or a series of structured events that provide a forum for mutual selection between the potential member and the organization.

Does the opportunity for friendship, leadership, and service within one organization sound interesting to you? Read more about the variety of fraternal organizations or stop by the Student Activities Office in the Campus Center.
