#25 Crusaders Drop Home Volleyball Match

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Capital University’s volleyball team, ranked No. 25 in the nation, dropped a 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference decision against Mount Union College Tuesday in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at The Capital Center.

The Crusaders took game one by a score of 30-26, as the team jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back from there. Capital led by as many as eight points and never let Mount get within four. In the second game, the Purple Raiders used a 7-2 run to take control early and led by as many as 11 before Capital cut it to 29-25, but Mount closed out the game on the next point.

Capital took a brief 13-12 lead behind the strength of five unanswered points in game three, and neither team gained control as the game was tied at 25. But the Purple Raiders came back to score the final five points and win the third game.

In the fourth game, a 7-0 Crusaders run brought them to within 20-19, and Capital trailed just 23-22 before Mount answered by scoring seven of the final nine points to close out the match.

Senior middle hitter Jessie Hampson (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the Crusaders with 16 kills and seven blocks, and also recorded 24 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Allison Hostetler (Dalton/Dalton) added nine kills.

Capital falls to 17-7 (2-2 OAC) and will next play at Heidelberg College at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
