How do I get a parking permit?

All parking permits are issued from the Public Safety Office located at 661 College Ave. on the SW corner of College Avenue and Mound Street. Parking applications can be found on the Public Safety web page by scrolling down the page and clicking on the heading Forms and downloading a copy. Once the form is filled out it may be mailed or brought into the Public Safety Office with any additional paperwork you may need to qualify. Permits for qualifying applicants will be mailed by Parking Services in early August.

The cost for a full time student is $70.00 for the academic year. Parking permits for evening students run $35.00 per semester.

Can every student get a parking permit?

All commuter students, Juniors, Seniors and RA's automatically qualify.

All Resident Freshman must park in the off campus or O-lot located on Nelson Rd. there are approximately 200 permits for this lot issued on a first come first serve basis.

Freshmen resident students with off campus week-day employment that requires a vehicle and can prove it by submittinga letter from their employer on company letterhead stating such, can apply for a space in our D lot at the Capital Commons. Because of the limited number of spaces available, all applications for D-lot will be taken to the Student Appeals Committee and permits awarded based on need and availability. The cost of ane O or D-permit is $40.00 for the academic school year.

Resident Sophomores can qualify for a student S or D parking pass by participation in student teaching, clinical's, class observations, being an RA, or by having a regularly scheduled weekday job outside the campus area with a letter on company letterhead, giving an approximate work schedule. Sophomores may also purchase an O-lot permit for $40.00 depending on availability.

Where is the O-lot and how does it work?

The O-lot is located on Nelson road just North of Main street, a quarter mile west of main campus. It is an enclosed lot that is opened and secured by the shuttle drivers during each run. It is locked at all other times. The O-lot shuttle van runs from the Shuttle Stop located in front of Schaaf Hall, to the O-lot every half hour on the half hour between the hours of 7:00 am. and 9:00 pm. on week days when classes are in session. If a student returns to campus after the Shuttle hours, they may park their vehicle in a student lot until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. After that time the vehicle will be cited so don't forget to return it to the O-lot.

There is also a Sunday shuttle from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. that leaves from the O-lot on a constant rotation during that time so students can return their vehicles to the lot and be brought back to campus.

The shuttle will also drop off and pick up students at Kroger upon request.

O-lot spaces are limited and permits are issued to resident students, on a first come first serve basis.

If I have a parking permit but can not find an open space on campus where do I park?

Having a permit does not guarantee you a parking space. What it means is that if a space is available you may use it. Parking, especially in the beginning of the school year, can be very difficult. The lack of a space however is not considered a valid excuse for violations of the regulations, or simply put, don't try to create your own parking space.

If you can not find a space on campus you may have to park on a city street. Parking Information sheets from the city of Bexley can be obtained at the Public Safety Office and at Bexley City Hall on Main Street across from campus. Bexley city codes and parking regulations are strictly enforced so students will need to be aware of where they are parking and read all signs posted on the city streets.

Can I park anywhere on weekends?

No. Open parking on weekends is only in the student (S) parking lots. Be careful not to park overnight in the NO PARKING 2:00 – 6:00 a.m. areas as these are enforced seven days a week year round.

Where would a visitor park and is there a charge?

Visitors during the normal business day must stop into the Public Safety office and register their vehicles. They will be given a temporary parking permit free of charge to hang in their front window. These are good in any S lot or visitors space on campus. After 4:30 p.m. visitors may park in any S student lot.

If you have a visitor on campus over night make sure they are not parked in a NO PARKING 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. area.

How do I appeal a ticket?

Appeal forms can be downloaded from the Public Safety web page filled out and turned in at the Public Safety Office. A person has seven (7) days to appeal a citation after which, if not paid, the fine is added to the students University account along with a three dollar processing fee. All appeals go first to the Coordinator of Parking Services for review and if no resolution can be found the appeal is sent on to Student Traffic Court. Student Traffic Court is a five student deliberation body who rules on all student traffic appeals. Students are notified of their traffic hearing date and time and if they want to appear they may, but it is not required. The student court will rule on each case and notify the student of its decision. The Student Courts decision is final, and any fines levied must be paid within seven (7) days or they will be sent to the Finance Office and added to the students University bill.
