Can anyone use a University fleet vehicle?

University fleet vehicles are available to be used as a transportation option for all University departments, groups and organizations. Student wishing to drive for one of these groups or organizations need to complete the following.

Each student must successfully complete the computer based safety program, fill out a Drivers History Form, and sign a Vehicle Usage Agreement Form, before they can be considered. These forms can be downloaded from the FORMS section of the Public Safety web page filled out and turned in to the Public Safety Office. A student certification is good for two years from the date of certification.

How Do I Reserve a University Fleet Vehicle?

Capital University maintains a small pool of vehicles, four twelve passenger vans and four Chevy Malibu’s that can be used for University business and the transportation of recognized University teams, groups or individuals to and from authorized events.

A certified student driver for a University Department or Organization may request the use of by calling the Public Safety Office at 6504. These vehicles will be assigned as each request comes in, and if no vehicle is available the requesting department or organization will be responsible for finding their own alternative transportation.

The driver of any vehicle rented from an outside agency for University events or programs must still be a certified University driver.

If a student wishes to drive their private vehicle to a University sponsored or required event they must file a Self Transportation Waiver at the Public Safety Office prior to the trip.

How much does it cost to use a University vehicle and how do I pay for gas?

Charges for University vehicles are calculated by the mile. A University van cost $.40 per mile to use, and a University car is $.30 per mile, which is billed to the account of the department or organization each month.

Each vehicle comes with a booklet to keep track of your miles traveled, an insurance card, and a BP gas card for fuel. Always get a receipt with each fill up and place it in the pouch with the gas card and zip the pouch back up.

IT IS A REQUIREMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT ALL PERSONS DRIVING A UNIVERSITY OWNED OR RENTED VEHICLE, OR USING A UNIVERSITY CREDIT CARD TO RENT A VEHICLE, MUST FIRST BE A UNIVERSITY CERTIFIED DRIVER. THIS REQUIRES EACH POTENTIAL DRIVER PASS THE ON LINE DRIVERS SAFETY COARSE, COMPLETE A DRIVERS HISTORY FORM AND A VEHICLE USAGE AGREEMENT FORM, AND TURN THOSE IN TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE FOR CERTIFICATION.
