Life Is My College...wait, what?

Well, after an exciting weekend, I am appreciative to be back to Capital. Where it is slightly quieter than the places I’ve been this weekend. Besides the admissions counselors laughing and talking in the main lobby. Oh, admissions staff. You always know how to have a good time. :D

This Saturday was kind of another one of those ‘hey, Heather…you’re in college now’ moments. I judged at a speech and debate tournament at Upper Arlington with a couple of fellow speech alumni. It was so weird, because just last year at this time, I was doing the exact same thing they were doing. And now I’m the person who is giving them their ratings.

You see, in speech we were rated on how well we performed on a ballot. The ballot gave us a placing (first, second, third, etc.) in the round and those would lead to how well we did in the tournament. The judge in the room writes commentary on the ballot and signs their name at the bottom, testifying they oversaw the round. Let me tell you, it was super weird to sign the bottom of all those ballots. It got even weirder when a speaker in one of the rounds came up to me and asked if I was an alumni. Alumni!?! That was so weird to hear. Everyone’s walking around in suits and practicing for their next round and here I am in jeans, walking to the judges’ lounge. I guess when you’re out of high school, you have moments like these. However, I do miss my speech family. I love and miss you guys!

I would also like to take this time to express my sympathy to all Buckeye fans out there. Being an Irish fan, I am used to loss, but I am still sorry to hear about the loss. (After all, I was raised a Buckeye as well) This weekend will be better. The team from up north is going to get stomped this weekend, I’m sure of it. Go Bucks!

After the speech tournament and hearing about the demise of the Buckeyes, I went back to Upper Arlington to a friends house. They were hosting a ‘dinner party’ of sorts and served tacos. Now, the MDR’s (main dining room) food is pretty good, but I like a home cooked meal every once and a while. It was a tease for next week. I am soooo excited to eat my Nana’s cooking, oh my goodness. Nevertheless, it was a very good time… food and friends, what could be better? However, I came back to Capital and went to bed early because I had gotten up at 6:45 am to judge. Yikes.

Sunday was another day of rest for me. That’s pretty much all that can be said about that.

Hmmm..what else?

This week is pretty busy for me. I have to write two papers and I have two exams. So I should be keeping busy this whole week, until Saturday…game day!!

And this week, Wicked Wednesday is a cultural night, which I think should be pretty cool. I heard rumor of Bubble Tea being available. That makes me really excited, because I love Bubble Tea. (If you don’t know what it is, Google it. It’s fantastic. If you live in Columbus, there’s a bubble tea station on High St. You should give it a try, it’s pretty much amazing.)

Oh yeah! My Nana’s birthday is today, and I know she reads this, so..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA! I love you!

With that being said, I think I’m done for tonight. Have I mentioned I love college? Because I do. It’s pretty much amazing.

Peace and Happiness

PS. It smells like Apple Pie in the admissions office. This is making me really hungry.

PPS. Marie Osmond still needs to get kicked off of Dancing with the Stars. If you voted for her, shame on you. Vote on someone good…like Mel and Maksim. :D
