Side Note! Really Quick!

Okay, I thought I would add this really quick.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but I am a student phoner for Capital University’s admissions office. This means I call prospective students and talk to them about Capital. (Yes, I know. One of those people who wont stop calling you. But remember. We call because we love you, and we really want you to come to Capital. I’m being serious.)

Anyways, I had a conversation the other day with a prospective student who was worried about financing college in general. She was worried because she wanted to attend a private school, but it was just so much money. And I know that’s the situation for a lot of you out there. So, I just want to give you my story on this.

I come from a divorced family. I live with my mother and my brother, and money isn’t always the most apparent thing in my family. I really wanted to attend a private institution, but was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to because of the cost. However, when I came to Capital, the admissions staff told me that they would work with me to make sure that Capital became a reality for me.

And, look! Here I am, and the financial situation is not a burden for me here. I just wanted you all to know that there are people out there who want you to achieve your dreams, just like the admissions staff here at Capital helped me achieve mine. That’s a main reason why I chose to go here, because everyone here is like that. Seriously. No joke. They want you to succeed. So, I figured, if they cared enough about me to do anything possible to help make Capital a reality, then this is the school for me.

Just remember, there is always some kind of help out there! You just have to really work at it! If you want college enough, it will come on its own.

I would also like to take this time to thank Kim and Sara in the admissions office. Without you, I would not be here typing this right now. Thank you for helping me achieve my dreams.

Have a great day, everyone!

PS. Now it smells like turkey…what the heck?!

Hey Heather! My name's Kaycee. I'm from Warren. I want to major in psychology like you so I thought I'd read your blogs. They're very entertaining by the way. So the financial thing is a problem for me too. Also I have no idea how I'm supposed to go about this college thing. I'm like a lost puppy. I don't know what to do and where to go. I want to visit CU. Can you help me out? And could you also tell me more about the psych course? Thanks

    Hello Kaycee!
I would love to help you out!
College is a very BIG choice in defining the rest of your life, and you have to go about it very carefully, taking everything you see into account. I guess I'll take you through what I did. Find a major that you enjoy (which you did) and then look around for schools that interest you. I went online and went to my guidance office and looked at webpages and viewbooks, so I could learn more about the college and what they have to offer. Also, while you're online, you can give them your information and they'll send more stuff to you. The guidance office can help a lot here too. Make sure you go to them if you need help, because if they're anything like mine, they'll be sure to help you in anyway they can. After you have some colleges you like, I would visit. The visit is a BIG part of the college search, because its actually a one-on-one experience. You get to see the college as the students view it. That's how I fell in love with Cap, on the visit.
As for setting up a visit at Cap, if you go online, there's a bunch of group visit days you can sign up for, or you can just email me at hharper2@capital.edu if you want a personalized visit, and I'll help you out!
After you visit, if you're a senior, APPLY! The sooner, the better, and Capital's application is online and totally free.
Now...the psych department. I absolutely LOVE the psych department. All of the professors are so nice and extremely intellegent, and their classes are intriguing, hardly ever boring. The psych department also offers a lot of independent study opportunities, which always look good on a resume for grad school or something, and plus its a good way to apply your major! You can also look more about the major under the Majors A-Z section on the site.
As for the financial aid thing, you must remember that at Capital, 100% of students have some form of financial aid. And if you have the desire to go to Capital, and the desire to suceed, I'm sure the admissions office can work with you, like they did me, and help make Capital a possibility for you.
If there's anything else I can help you with, you can post it here, or email me at hharper2@capital.edu.
    Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
    -Heather
