Plans for Thanksgiving!

So Thanksgiving is fast approaching (not soon enough, but I’ll live) and I for one can not wait to be home with my family and especially the turkey that will be 3/5 mine. Sadly, I’ve decided to start dieting, so I’m going to have to part with 2/5 of the turkey and slice my 1/5 up and put it on a salad. Ugh.
One thing I love about Thanksgiving and that I have not grown out of is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! I’ll sit there for hours being of no help to anyone, and watch the balloons, bands, and a cold Matt Lauer and Al Roker run all over Times Square. I plan on going to New York City and seeing the parade first hand someday…when I have money to travel!
Another great thing about Thanksgiving is the football! This year my Green Bay Packers are at Detroit, and if you are a Lions fan, you might have the humble pie I won’t be eating with my dinner, because THE PACKERS RULE.
On a personal note, I went and saw Lions for Lambs at the Drexel, across the street from Capital with Dustin (the other blogger). Ladies, he isn’t the kind of guy you want to go on a date with. He hogs the popcorn, talks during the movie, and doesn’t offer to pay. I mean, what kind of guy does that? But the point of this was the theme of that movie: service to one’s country. I think it is an amazing idea, and I did something along those lines when I ran for Board of Education. But, the movie made me think bigger, much bigger. I’ve known about AmeriCorps for many years, but have never given it the time of day. Now, I’m really sure that I’m going to attempt it this summer. One must serve the betterment of society and his country, and I think that AmeriCorps would offer me the chance to go into a rough neighborhood in an American city and help children become empowered and eager to rise above their dreams. Just a thought. Stay classy ;)

Ladies, let me assure you that I am a 100% gentleman on any date. Ross is just not my type and in my defense, he would not share the popcorn and made me buy my own. But he is correct, the movie really hit home to me, and I highly recommend a trip to see it...and share the popcorn with whoever you go with!
