(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Senior middle hitter Jessie Hampson (Lancaster/Lancaster) became the first Capital University volleyball player to earn All-American honors for three consecutive seasons, and four Crusaders also picked up Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference awards.
Hampson was one of three Division III volleyball players named to the 2007 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American team for the third time, and this was her first time on the First Team. She was a second-team selection following the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The only other Crusaders to earn AVCA All-American honors besides Hampson are former outside hitters Jordan Centers, in 2005 and 2006 and Nici Workman in 2003.
Hampson and junior outside hitter Jackie Helm (Lancaster/Lancaster) were also named Academic All-OAC First Team, while junior setter Kara Guster (Orrville/Orrville) and sophomore setter Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff/Fairlawn) were honorable mention selections.
It is the second year in a row that Hampson, a Health & Physical Education major with a 3.58 grade point average and Guster, a Pre-Physical Therapy major with a 3.98 gpa, have earned All-OAC academic honors, while Helm, who majors in Integrated Science Education/Biology with a 3.88 gpa, was also an Academic All-OAC pick in 2005.
In order to receive Academic All-OAC honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing, a starter or key reserve and maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
