2007 Season Recap - Crusaders Re-Write Record Book With Excellent Season

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)---Capital University's men's soccer team, champions of the Ohio Athletic Conference and nationally ranked for much of the season, finished its 2007 campaign with a school-record 15 wins and an impressive 15-2-3 record.

A school-record 15-game unbeaten streak highlighted the 2007 season in which the Crusaders outscored their opponents 54-16 en route to the OAC regular season title.

It all started in goal for Capital this season as junior goalkeeper John Snyder (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) snagged the award for the conference's top keeper.  Snyder finished the season with 12 wins, five shutouts, and 78 saves.

Three other Crusaders were named OAC first-teamers:  Seniors Paul Sparke (Cincinnati/Moeller) and Heath Oberle (Westerville/Westerville South), along with sophomore Steven McCarthy (Centerville/Kettering Alter), Capital's season leader in goals (15) and total points (33).  Sophomore Josh Thaboune (Bexley/Bexley) was named honorable-mention All-OAC.

This was Coach Dwight Burgess's third-consecutive winning season and his first OAC title on the men's side.  The Crusaders lose some key seniors, but will return solid sophomore and junior classes in hopes of capturing back-to-back titles in 2008.
