(DELAWARE, Ohio)--Capital University's women's basketball team, ranked No. 20 in the nation, opened the game on a 15-5 run and never looked back in a 77-39 rout of Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University Friday in a first round game of the Ohio Wesleyan "Hoops For Hope" Tournament in Delaware, Ohio.
Capital runs its record to 3-0 on the season and takes on host Ohio Wesleyan University in the title game of the tournament tomorrow at 3 p.m., while Carnegie Mellon (3-1) takes on Frostburg State (Md.) University in the consolation game.
Sophomore Kristen Richardson (Oxford/Talawanda) scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in a first half that saw the Crusaders convert 15-of-29 shots (51.7-percent), while Carnegie Mellon made just 6-of-32 shots (18.8-percent) as Capital led 38-14 at the break.
Junior Caitilin Graessle (Galloway/Bishop Ready) scored 10 points as 12 different Crusaders scored. Ashley Rothwell scored 11 points as the lone Carnegie Mellon player in double digits.
