Turnovers Stop #17 Women's Basketball at Wilmington

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) -- Capital University's women's basketball team dropped its first Ohio Athletic Conference contest of the season, falling on the road against Wilmington College, 76-68, Wednesday in Wilmington, Ohio.

The loss drops the No. 17-ranked Crusaders to 5-2 (1-1 OAC), while the Quakers improved to 6-1 (2-0 OAC) on the season.

After holding a 33-30 halftime lead, Wilmington extended its advantage to 51-37 with just over 10 minutes remaining. A three-pointer by junior guard Caitlin Graessle (Galloway/Bishop Ready) cut the deficit to 67-64 with 2:43 left, but Capital could not get any closer.

Sophomore guard Kristen Richardson (Oxford/Talawanda) scored a game-high 17 points to pace four Crusaders in double figures, including Graessle with 13, senior forward Tiffany Withers (Pickerington/Central) with 10 and junior forward Caitlin Elsass (Batavia/Clermont Northeastern) with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

But Capital suffered from 26 turnovers and the Quakers had six players score in double figures, led by Marianne McGoron's 16 points.

The Crusaders return home to host John Carroll University at 3 p.m. Saturday in The Capital Center.  The game will be broadcast on the Internet on www.capitalcrusaders.net.
