#25 Capital 79, Muskingum 43
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--Capital University scored a season-high 79 points in a 79-43 rout of Muskingum College Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game at The Capital Center.
No. 25-ranked Capital (7-2 overall) gets back into a first place tie in the OAC at 3-1 courtsey of Baldiwn-Wallace's 70-67 win at Wilmington. All three teams have 3-1 marks in conference action. Muskingum, playing its first road game of the season, falls to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in OAC action.
Sophomore Kristen Richardson (Oxford/Talwanda) scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in a first half that saw the Crusaders open up the game on an 8-0 run and never look back as they forced 13 turnovers and held the Muskies to 8-of-29 shooting for the half to get out to a 40-19 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same as Capital stretched the lead out to 40 points before the 79-43 final.
Aside from Richardson, senior Tiffany Withers (Pickerington/Pickerington Central) had 11 points as 13 different Crusaders cracked the scoring column. Capital held a 51-32 advantage on the boards as junior Caitlin Elsass (Batavia/Clermont Northeastern) matched her season-high with 11 rebounds, while fellow junior Heather McAlpin (Cincinnati/Colerain) had eight rebounds and a season-high four blocked shots.
Jessica McKenzie had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Muskingum.
Capital takes two weeks off for the holidays next playing on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 3 p.m. hosting Defiance College at The Capital Center.
