The bass program at Capital is designed to help students prepare for the many musical challenges in the ever-changing music industry. With efforts to ensure that students have the best possible skills in place to enable one to survive in the business of music, a well-planned curriculum, centered on both the acoustic and electric basses and rooted in all genres, awaits all incoming students to Capital University.
A variety of performance opportunities ensures a solid foundation to students participating in the bass program. Ensembles include the Big Band, jazz combos, jazz percussion ensemble, fusion band, MIDI Band, jazz vocal group, guitar workshop, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Winds, Chamber Winds, Cap-Bexley Community Orchestra, and jazz guitar ensemble. Further, students are encouraged to participate in musical productions performed each year by our musical theater department.
A conscious effort is made by our bass staff,
Professor Roger Hines, Dr. Mark Morton and
Dr. Lou Fischer, to rotate students through as many different types of ensembles as possible, thereby ensuring the most rounded experience during a student's tenure here at Capital. Additionally, the bass faculty members are available year-round as advisors, to assist both incoming and present students with questions that may arise.
