When I went to my first class this morning (Philosophy & Politics…ugh), I couldn’t have imagined the way my day would end. I walked into the classroom about 10 minutes late and threw myself into a chair in the front row, not only is this class at 9:30 in the morning, but it’s also not one of my favorites. Immediately, one of the guys in the class starts into how public schools should be done away with and everyone should be able to choose whatever school they want. I turned around and told the “snob” that public schools are here for those of us who are not the wealthiest of individuals, that just because he was able to attend a private school, doesn’t mean that I, or anyone who attends a public school, should be considered “less than”. I argued that though someday we may all be wealthy enough not to have to use Social Security, Medicare, or public schools, we still must pay taxes on all of these because they are there for the day we may need them. Not to mention, that our public schools have successfully educated American students for over 200 years, and charter and private schools have proven to be no better or worse. I made my case and left as soon as class was finished.
After class, I went down to the Admissions Office and worked for the next three hours on a variety of tasks. When all was done there, I went to my Behavioral Statistics class and learned how to create multi-variable studies on mapping, observing, and determining future behavior. I walked out of that class grabbed a bite to eat and went to my next job as a Student Communications Assistant, or Student Phoner. By calling prospective students Capital ensures students know of the University and stay interested through multiple conversations. I have TIPS Training next, where I will learn how to correctly and safely throw a party. And finally, from 10-1 tonight I have a meeting of the Greek Council Executive Board to decide the final qualifications and restrictions on Rushing for a fraternity or sorority. Hopefully, I’ll be in bed by 2:00, giving me five hours to sleep before I have to be back at work for the Collegiate Fellowship Scholarship Competition, which starts at 8:00 tomorrow morning…
