(COLUMBUS, Ohio)--On a wintry, cold January afternoon, the Capital University women's basketball team was equally as frigid as the Crusaders scored a season-low 40 points in a 58-40 Ohio Athletic Conference loss to No. 23-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College at The Capital Center.
The win moves Baldwin-Wallace to 15-2 overall and 7-2 in the OAC, while Capital falls to 11-6 overall and 5-5 in the OAC. The Crusaders have now lost four of their last five games.
Capital converted only 13-of-61 (21.3-percent) shots for the game, including 0-for-15 from three-point range.
The Yellow Jackets took advantage of Capital's poor first half shooting as they led by as many as 14 points in the first half before settling for a 29-20 halftime lead. Baldwin-Wallace had a 15-point advantage, 42-27, with 11 minutes to go when the Crusaders made their comeback. A jumper by Chelsea Ruoff (Grove City/Grove City) at the 7:32 mark capped an 11-0 Capital run that made the score 42-38. Baldwin-Wallace would come right back and score 10-straight points to put the game away.
Stacia Shrider had game-highs of 12 points and eight rebounds and Amanda Schroeder had 10 points to lead Baldwin-Wallace.
Caitlin Elsass (Batavia/Clermont Northeastern) had seven points to pace Capital.
The Crusaders next host Wilmington College Wed., Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at The Capital Center. The game will be broadcast on the radio on WFCO 90.9 FM and simulcast online at
