(WESTERVILLE, Ohio)--Capital University's women's indoor track & field team finished in fourth place and men in seventh place out of 17 teams at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships Saturday at Otterbein College in Westerville.
The women posted their best finish ever in the event with 64.5 points which left them just 1.5 points shy of third place Ohio Wesleyan University (66). Host Otterbein College had 102.75 points to claim the women's title with Ohio Northern University sitting in second place with 76 points.
Junior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati/Withrow) contributed to 26 of those points for the Capital women by winning the long jump (17-6.25), finishing second in the triple jump (35-3.25) and taking a leg of the 4x200 meter relay (1:47.28) that took second place. Junior Tana Myers (Ashland/Mapleton) along with sophomores Brittany Carter (Columbus/Westerville South) and Jessica Starks (Akron/Akron East) made up the other three members of the relay team. Starks also set a school record with a fifth place finish in the 55 meter dash (7.48). Another school record came from freshman Mallory Molls (Brunswick/Brunswick) in the pole vault, while junior Shelly Gaines (Grove City/Central Crossing) had a third place finish in the 800 (2:23.12).
The men racked up 26 points to tie Wittenberg University for seventh place and each were four points behind sixth place Otterbein College (30). Ohio Northern University had 114 points to finish in first place.
Junior Doug Gibbons (Troy/Troy) won the pole vault with a mark of 14-5.25, freshman Cory Trump (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) placed second in the high jump (6-5), while Jesse Ramirez (Howard/East Knox) was third in the 55 meter dash (6.60) as the top performers.
Capital hosts the Rick Meindl Last Call Meet next Friday (Feb. 22) starting at 5:30 p.m. at The Capital Center.
