(BEREA, Ohio)--Rachel Quiring nailed a three-pointer with 19 seconds left and top-seeded Baldwin-Wallace College hit a pair of free throws to escape with a 56-51 victory over No. 5 seed Capital University in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament in Berea, Ohio.
Baldwin-Wallace, ranked No. 9 in the nation, moved to 25-2 overall and will host Wilmington College Saturday at 3 p.m. in the OAC Tournament championship game.
Carly Flowers came off the bench to score 14 points and Selena E-Budge scored 10 points to lead Baldwin-Wallace, while Capital (17-10) got a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds from junior forward Caitlin Elsass (Batavia/Clermont Northeastern) in the loss.
The Yellow Jackets took a 15-9 lead on a Stacia Shrider layup with 10:29 to go in the first half. B-W held six point leads on two times, the last time 22-16 with 4:33 to go, when Capital scored six-straight to tie the game at 22. B-W then took a 25-24 lead into the lockers.
There were seven lead changes over the first seven minutes of the second half and a Chelsea Ruoff (Grove City/Grove City) gave the Crusaders a four-point lead, 37-33. Four more ties and four more lead changes ensued over the next 10 minutes, when an Elsass layup with 1:27 to go gave Capital a 51-49 advantage. Baldwin-Wallace would score seven-straight points to put the game away.
