No matter your political affiliation, you have to be excited about the 2008 presidential election! I mean, a major political party is poised to nominate either a woman or an African American as its presidential contender. For the first time since 1984 (when former Vice President Walter Mondale chose New York Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro as his running-mate) the United States will have a diversified ticket, one that will better represent our ever changing nation. I left school today to cast my vote at home for the candidate I feel is the most ready to lead America in the 21st century, mostly because she’s been leading all of her life: Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). The junior senator from New York has fought for families and working class Americans since her days as First Lady of Arkansas. She, more than any other candidate, has offered more hope to the working class families of America, and has a plan to make them part of America’s growing middle class. For my first presidential election, I was proud to cast my vote for a candidate I could believe in, not just the “lesser of two evils”.
Also, I have absolutely no homework for the rest of this week!!! How awesome is that? I stared at my schedule and couldn’t believe I could get that lucky, but I have! I plan on getting a lot of pleasure reading done, as I hear the weather isn’t going to be getting any better. I’m also putting together a little committee of my closest friends, and weighing my chances of entering the Student Government presidential race. My involvement at Capital is well known, and I think I might have a chance, especially since I talk to so many new students and hear what they want to do to improve the University.
Anyways, there is still an hour left until the polls close, PLEASE GO VOTE!!!
Whether or not you agree with my candidate doesn’t matter, what matters is that you exercise your right as an American citizen! This presidential election will forever change the political landscape of America; please pick the candidate who shares your ideals, hopes, and beliefs for building a better, stronger United States of America!!!
GO HILLCAT, FIGHT FOR AMERICA!!!
