So much is happening so quickly! I have made the decision to graduate one year early - so here I come Capital Class of 2009. I have to say, time has really flown by since I've been at Cap. I'm really thankful for the amazing professors that have made graduating early a feasible option for me. I really have nothing but good things to say about Capital. My classes are going well. I'm still working with the Social Work Department Chair, Dr. Ross, on my independent study: Social Science Publication on ADHD, in which I will have the oportunity to be published along with the other authors of the article we're working on! I am so excited. It is giving me such amazing experience. Advice to all incoming first year students: FIND YOUR PASSION. Do what you love and your years at Capital will be worthwhile.
Speaking of what I love, I am also going to be President of the Student Social Work Association next year as well as the Leader of Capital College Democrats! If anyone has any questions about either of these organizations, shoot me an email and I can let you know alittle more of what we're all about. These are both amazing student organizations!!
Wow, I am just filled with good news. I just found out today that I will be receiving a Capital Legacy Scholarship, which I was eligible for because my sister graudated from Capital University(she was also Homecoming Queen her senior year! yay!).
Let me give some more advice to prospective students: APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS even after you're accepted. Here I am, a Junior in college, and I'm still applying for scholarships and it's paying off! Believe me.
Hmm...what else? Oh, tonite is Wicked Wednesday and they're showing SUPERBAD at the Drexel Theater on Main Street for FREE. I happen to be obsessed with movies so this is right up my alley! And I really like the Drexel theater. Oh, and if you haven't seen Horton Hears a Who yet, I highly recommend it. The Student Social Work Association went to see it and had a blast!
I really have to cherish my down time now because next year I am going to be quite the busy college student. I secured my field placement for next year to complete my hours for the Social Work degree. I will be interning at Buckeye Ranch, an agency that serves adolescents. I'll be working in the Mutlisystemic Therapy unit, which is a fancy research term for a home based program for juvenile delinquents. I will still be working at Huckleberry House, the teen crisis shelter, as a Crisis Intervention Specialist, and will be leading two student organizations. But, believe me, I encourage the craziness! I love a challenge and I love being busy. Next year will be awesome! You only live once, right?
