Cap Students, Staff Serve Their Community with Into the Streets, a Daylong Service Effort

Article Body

More than 60 Capital University students and staff recently went “Into the Streets” to make a difference in their community as part of a campus-wide community service effort.

The annual Into the Streets event, organized through Capital's Community Service and Leadership Development Office, benefits many different non-profit organizations in the Bexley and Central Ohio communities.

During this year’s day of service, students and staff volunteered at Sunrise Senior Living, where they played Bingo and visited with residents; worked with Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries, helping with a tree- and shrub-planting and greenway-restoration project; and participated in the Multiple Sclerosis walk at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, helping to raise money and awareness.

Students also volunteered at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, where they washed, brushed, walked and cared for the dogs who call the shelter a home. Similarly, a group of students went to the Cat Welfare Association. Other organizations that benefited from student service were Open Shelter and MAP Furniture Bank,
which provides furniture and goods for families living in low-income housing.
