Countertenor Ian Howell '98 has earned critical acclaim for his vocal talent and performed on major concert stages in the United States, Europe, Mexico, Canada, Japan, and Taiwan, but his performance goals focus more on his listeners than on himself. "My job is not to make a pretty sound... When I get up on stage, I have the opportunity to bring someone in that audience out of themselves -- and their preoccupations -- and more fully into the present moment. My hope is that this awareness carries on long after the concert is finished."
