  4. Back at Cap...sort of...

Seeing as it’s been over a month since my last post, I decided to yet again grace this website with my thoughts.

Over three weeks ago, some of the upper class students and some of my best friends began arriving back on campus. These were the student leaders, roughly 100 students who make up the Residence Life staff, Orientation Leaders, Smooth Transitions and Peer Mentor teams. For several days and long nights, we lived together, trained together and worked towards a common goal of welcoming the class of 2012! After the training (which was actually a lot of fun), we completed yet another successful Orientation program, and I can easily say that I am proud to finally have the class of 2012 on campus.

When classes started on August 25th, I found myself in a unique position. Instead of moving into a hall on campus and starting my Monday off with an early class, I slept past 8:00 AM and went into work once again. This semester, for my Music Technology degree, is my professional semester. Rather than taking classes at Capital, I will be taking 8 weeks of classes for 12 hours a day at the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH (a world renowned school for audio engineering) and then moving on to a two month internship at Dark Horse Recording in Nashville, Tennessee.

This studio has produced some of the biggest stars in country music from Toby Keith and Faith Hill to Big n’ Rich and Allison Kraus. This is a huge opportunity for me as I am the first Capital student to go there (they usually take interns from larger schools such as Berklee). Another thing that I should mention before I leave is that I will be video-blogging during this entire semester so that you can also see and hear what I’m experiencing during my time away from Capital!

Words cannot express how excited I am for this semester and for my opportunity to share it first hand with all of you! As always feel free to leave comments or email me at amiller5@capital.edu! You’ll hear from me soon!

  5. I'm a Blogger Now!

This is kind of exciting, I always wanted to be a blogger, but during my freshman year I completely forgot to submit a sample to the Admissions Office for consideration. I guess I'll just make up for lost time.

So, I might as well start by introducing myself to you, loyal readers. My name is Adam Miller, I'm a Junior Music Technology major with a minor in Business Management. I'm from a growing town called Canal Winchester (about 20 minutes south of Columbus) and graduated from Teays Valley High School in 2006. Coming to Capital was the best decision I could have made. Since my freshman year, I have joined a fraternity DELTA TAU UPSILON with some of the best friends I've had, become an Orientation Leader, been in charge of a great group of guys as an RA, performed with two Capital choral groups and switched my major twice...oh and I've studied a little bit too.

This summer, I'm working for the university giving tours, so maybe you'll see me during a campus visit or during orientation. I also work for our conservatory of music providing live sound and recording. I'm living at home for the summer, saving up money for an internship in the fall (which I'll talk about in a later post). I miss all of my Cap friends and can't wait to be back for move-in day in the Fall.

So, that's Adam in a nutshell. However, the most important thing for you to know is that I am a Capital student...I live, I work and I study here and wouldn't trade that for anything. Seeing as this is my first entry, I'm going to keep it short in hopes that many of you will respond and offer feedback. Please leave comments!
