Kara Guster (volleyball) and Doug Gibbons (track & field) were named Capital's 2009 winners of the Clyde Lamb award which is given annually by the Ohio Athletic Conference to the best senior student-athletes from each OAC institution. AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University senior volleyball players Kara Guster and Jackie Helm were both named to the Ohio Athletic Conference All-Academic Team on Tuesday following voting conducted by the conference’s Senior Woman Administrators.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Three members of the Capital University volleyball team were awarded All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition on Tuesday after voting conducted by the league’s head coaches. Junior Allison Hostetler was an All-OAC Second Team pick while seniors Jackie Helm and Kelly Steineman were All-OAC Honorable Mention selections.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University seniors Kara Guster and Jackie Helm were each named to the ESPN The Magazine Volleyball Academic All-District IV First Team on Thursday. The duo will now advance to the national ballot and are eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Nov. 24.

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The fifth-seeded Capital University volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a five-game loss at fourth-seeded Mount Union, 2-3 (13-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 6-15) in an OAC Quarterfinal Match on Tuesday night at Timken Gymnasium.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University’s volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match as the Crusaders held off a late Marietta College rally, defeating the Pioneers 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21) Tuesday at The Capital Center.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University volleyball team swept Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) on Tuesday night. The Crusaders have now won eight of their last nine matches to build a 22-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in OAC play.

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Capital University’s volleyball team scored a pair of non-conference wins over the College of Wooster and Denison University in a tri-match in Granville Saturday.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Visiting Capital rallied for a hard-fought 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball play on Friday night. With the victory, CU improved to 19-5 overall and 3-2 in OAC action.

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Visiting Capital slid to 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball play with an 0-3 (23-25, 23-25, 18-25) loss at Mount Union on Tuesday night.

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Visiting Capital had 13 different players see action in a 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 25-14) victory over Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. With its second straight OAC victory, Capital improved to 18-4 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Junior middle hitter Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) had a match-high 16 kills as Capital University’s volleyball team swept visiting Baldwin-Wallace College (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) Wednesday in Capital’s Ohio Athletic Conference home opener.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Homestanding Capital swept Urbana, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) in the first of two non-conference volleyball matches on Monday at the Capital Center. The Crusaders (16-4) proceeded to knock off Ursuline in straight sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) in the nightcap.

TIFFIN, Ohio – A double-double by senior Jackie Helm was not enough to lift visiting Capital past Heidelberg in a 1-3 (25-27, 25-22, 22-25, 27-29) loss during a tightly-played Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night. With the loss, Capital fell to 14-4 overall and 0-1 in OAC play.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The host Crusaders split a pair of matches to wrap up play at the 2008 Capital Mid-Month Madness on Saturday at the Capital Center. CU fell to #25 Mount St. Joseph, 0-3 (22-25, 17-25, 23-25) before defeating Nazareth, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20).

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The homestanding Crusaders began play at their own Capital Mid-Month Madness on Friday with a 3-0 sweeps of Albion (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) and Elizabethtown (25-21, 25-11, 25-17) at the Capital Center. With the wins, CU extended its winning streak to six consecutive matches and improved to 13-2 overall on the season.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – A pair of Capital University student-athletes were named as OAC Players of the Week in their respective sports on Monday. Junior middle blocker Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) earned honors on the volleyball side while junior midfielder Josh Thaboune (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) was the men’s soccer honoree.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Capital volleyball continued its winning ways at the Volley Against Violence Tournament hosted by Westminster College on Saturday morning with wins over Georgian Court, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-19) and Grove City, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 22-25, 15-12). With the wins, Capital improved to 11-2 overall this season.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Capital University volleyball team lifted its record to 9-2 on the season with a pair of victories on Day One of the Volley Against Violence Tournament hosted by Westminster College on Friday. CU defeated Penn State-Behrend, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) and host Westminster, 3-0 (25-23, 31-29, 25-16).

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball rallied to force a fifth-set but could not hold on to a late lead in a 2-3 (32-30, 18-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-17) loss to #19 Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday at the Capital Center.

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Capital volleyball team lifted its overall record to 7-1 on the season with victories over Penn State-Altoona and host Washington & Jefferson at the 2008 Holiday INNvitational on Sunday.

CU defeated RIT, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-13) in its opener before falling to OAC rival Heidelberg in a non-conference matchup for the Tournament Championship, 0-3 (21-25, 8-25, 19-25).

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The host Crusader volleyball team won both of its matches on the first day of play at the 2008 Capital Volleyball Invitational on Friday. CU beat Adrian, 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 25-27, 25-22) before sweeping Hanover, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-23).

Capital University’s volleyball team reported to campus for its first day of practice Monday at The Capital Center.

The Capital University volleyball team was picked to finish third in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday.
