90 Day Password Policy *
Capital University has a password policy in which all university constitutions must change their passwords every 90 days. You should receive an e-mail reminder (sent to your Capital e-mail account only) 15 days prior to the expiration of your password. It is very important that you change your password prior to its expiration to alleviate disruption of service to the Portal, Web Advisor, Blackboard and E-mail. If your password does expire, you will not be able to access these services and may get an error message stating “user not recognized” or “user name and password not valid” when you try to log into a university system. If you get this message, you should go to: https://pwchange.capital.edu to change your password immediately.
You need to click on the “Change” link to change your password if you know what your password is. If you don’t know what your password is, you need to put in a service request to have your password changed. You can open up your own service request on-line by going to: https://footprints.capital.edu and logging in with your e-mail user name and password.
Password resets may take up to 3 business days depending on the time of the semester; therefore, you should pick passwords that will be easy for you to remember. You cannot use the “Reset” feature until you enroll in the new password management system.
The Password Management System
The Office of Information (I.T.) is proud to offer a new password management system! This will allow you to change, reset and unlock your own user account without assistance from I.T.
To utilize this service, you must first register! Registration is a one step, one time process. Go to https://pwchange.capital.edu and click on the “Enroll” link. Follow the directions; answer all the questions; click submit and you’re done! If you need additional assistance, you may contact the IT Service Desk at 614-236-6508.
*Your password verifies who you are when you log into a secured university system; therefore, if someone hacks your password and starts accessing your account, they will immediately be shut out once your password is changed or when detected by IT personnel. It is imperative that you pick a good secured password that cannot be guessed by others and that you do not store this password anywhere where it can be stolen.
