Capital Places 17th Among Midwest Master’s Universities in America’s Best Colleges 2009

Capital University again was ranked among the top 20 Midwest master’s universities by U.S. News & World Report's America’s Best Colleges 2009, released Friday.

Capital placed 17th out of 67 master’s schools in the Midwest – the same position it held last year. When master’s universities in all four regions are combined, Capital ranks 73rd among the 572 institutions nationwide, placing it in the top 13 percent of master’s universities in the country.

“Capital University has a distinguished heritage of delivering an educational experience that transforms lives,” said President Denvy A. Bowman. “Using a variety of methods, we continually assess the quality and rigor of our academic programs and the success of our students. I am pleased to see these efforts validated by a national publication.”

Also noteworthy is the increase in Capital’s peer assessment score, which is based on the rating presidents, provosts and deans of admissions assign the academic programs at their peer institutions. In a year when many schools experienced a decline in peer assessment score, Capital’s improved from 2.7 to 2.8 on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being marginal and 5 being distinguished.

According to U.S. News, schools in the Best Universities – Master’s category provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs. Others included in the category are Creighton, Xavier, Valparaiso and Butler universities.
