SHEPHERD NAMED NFCA ADIDAS GOLDEN SHOE WINNER

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Capital University Infielder Lindsay Shepherd was honored for the second consecutive season as the NFCA adidas Golden Shoe award recipient for NCAA Division III on Thursday.

 

Shepherd finished her collegiate career in 2008 by leading the Crusaders with 42 stolen bases to go along with a batting average of .447 and an on base percentage of .503, which were also team bests.  The four-time NFCA All-Region selection and three-time All-OAC First Team pick led the nation in overall stolen bases last season while finishing tied for second in stolen bases per game (1.08).  Shepherd was also among the Top 75 players in all of NCAA Division III in both batting average and on base percentage.

 

The infielder from Phillipsburg, Ohio was consistently among the best players in the nation throughout her career at Capital.  She concluded her junior season ranked first in overall stolen bases (47), third in stolen bases per game (1.15), 21st in batting average (.478) and 45th in runs scored per game (1.1).  Shepherd also ranked among the elite in NCAA Division III in sacrifice hits per game as both a junior and a sophomore and in batting average as a freshman.  She concluded her career as the Crusaders’ all-time leader in career stolen bases with 122.

 

Capital finished 23-16 overall in 2008 including a 10-8 record in OAC play under the direction of head coach Nan Payne.  The Crusaders finished fifth in the OAC standings while boasting three All-OAC selections on its roster.  In addition, CU had one player earn ESPN Academic All-District honors in 2008.
