MEN'S SOCCER STARTS SEASON WITH 6-1 WIN OVER FRANKLIN (IND.)

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Capital University's men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the 2008 season with a 6-1 win over Franklin (Ind.) College Sunday at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Crusaders (1-0) got on the board first with a goal from junior Steven McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter), assisted by senior Joey Snyder (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) in the 18th minute. Capital went on to tally three more first half goals, with one each coming from sophomore Lewis Black (Auckland, New Zealand/St. Peter's College), sophomore Chris Headlam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and sophomore Jeremy Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) just 51 seconds before halftime to put the Crusaders in front 4-0.

Capital then tacked on two more goals in the second frame, with McCarthy picking up his second tally and Snyder adding the other. Goalkeeper Justin Bultman (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) stopped all three shots he faced in the first half to pick up the win.

The six goals scored by Capital were the most since an 8-0 win over Defiance at Bernlohr Stadium on Sept. 23, 2007. The Crusaders will play at Urbana at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
