AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Junior forward Steven McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading Capital to a 6-1 win over Franklin this past week.
McCarthy scored two goals and assisted on another as the Crusaders scored at least six goals in a match for the first time since Sept. 23, 2007. He scored the first goal of the season for CU in the 18th minute on a blast from the left side. The junior assisted on an other score just under three minutes later to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the contest. He found the back of the net a second time less than two minutes after halftime to put the game away for CU.
Capital (1-0-0) returns to action this evening at Urbana. The match with the Blue Knights is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
