DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University men’s soccer team used a pair of goals late in the first half to defeat McMurray, 3-0 on Saturday at the adidas Ohio Wesleyan Invitational. With the victory, CU improved to 4-0-0 on the season.
The senior duo of Joey Snyder (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS) and Tyler Mowbray (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) each tallied a goal 50 seconds apart from each other to put the Crusaders ahead for good in the 35th minute. Snyder scored an unassisted goal 33:58 into the contest. Then Mowbray drilled home a loose ball in front of the net at 34:48 as CU out shot McMurray 17-1 in the first half while building a two-goal lead.
Freshman Devon Ludwig (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) added a goal of his own in the 69th minute of the game as Capital earned its first 4-0-0 start in over 10 seasons.
Sophomore Justin Bultman (Maineville, Ohio/Kings HS) was not tested in goal while improving to 4-0-0 on the season. He played the first 45 minutes before give way to senior John Snyder (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS) who made two saves while playing the entire second half.
Four Crusaders were named to the All-Invitational Team for their play in wins over Grove City and McMurray. Snyder and Doran were joined by Steven McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) and Robbie Breen (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS).
Capital will return to Delaware, Ohio on Wednesday as it takes on Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference road match at 7:30 p.m. ET.
