VOLLEYBALL WINS PAIR AT VOLLEY AGAINST VIOLENCE TOURNAMENT

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Capital University volleyball team lifted its record to 9-2 on the season with a pair of victories on Day One of the Volley Against Violence Tournament hosted by Westminster College on Friday.  CU defeated Penn State-Behrend, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) and host Westminster, 3-0 (25-23, 31-29, 25-16).

 

Junior middle blocker Laura Wichman (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon HS) led the Crusaders to victory in the opener against PSU-Behrend.  She hit .692 with nine kills to lead a Capital offense that was in control throughout behind aggressive serving from Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS).  Classmate Jenifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) added seven kills while libero Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) picked up 20 digs in a winning effort.

 

In the nightcap, junior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) racked up 10 kills while hitting at a .500 clip to go along with two blocks as Capital swept the host Titans. The duo of Zumberger and senior Kara Guster (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville HS) controlled the Crusader offensive attack with 14 and 10 assists respectively.  Doebel and senior Jackie Helm (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic HS) paced the defense as CU out hit WC, .250 to .240.

 

Capital will wrap up action at the Volley Against Violence Tournament on Saturday with matches against Georgian Court and Grove City.
