TIFFIN, Ohio – A double-double by senior Jackie Helm was not enough to lift visiting Capital past Heidelberg in a 1-3 (25-27, 25-22, 22-25, 27-29) loss during a tightly-played Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night. With the loss, Capital fell to 14-4 overall and 0-1 in OAC play.
Helm (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic HS) hit .333 while posting 15 kills and 26 digs as she was one of three Crusaders to post double digits in kills and five with 10 digs or more.
Junior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) and freshman Emily Heitmeyer (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa Glandorf HS) both has big nights offensively as they accounted for 19.0 and 12.5 points respectively. Hostetler finished with 15 kills while hitting at a .483 clip to go along with four solo blocks while Heitmeyer hit .375 to put away 11 kills to go along with one block and one service ace.
The setting duo of senior Kara Guster (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville HS) and junior Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) led the CU offense to a .263 team hitting percentage. Guster finished with 30 assists and 14 digs while Zumberger had 20 assists and 15 digs.
Capital held the ‘Berg to a .250 team hitting percentage behind a defensive effort that was led by 29 digs from junior libero Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS). Classmate Brenda Denlinger (Arcanum, Ohio/Arcanum HS) had 21 digs while adding two service aces and six kills.
Capital will host a tri-match with Urbana and Ursuline on Monday beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
