Ticket and Other Information on Sentator McCain, Governor Palin Event Sept. 29

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin are expected to speak at a voter-registration drive and rally at Capital University on Monday, Sept. 29.

The event, organized by the Republican National Committee, will be held in The Capital Center Field House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and McCain and Palin are expected to speak at noon. No one will be permitted to enter The Capital Center between noon and 1 p.m. The Capital Center is located at the corner of Main Street and Pleasant Ridge Avenue, in Bexley.

Tickets for the event are available to all who wish to attend. They will be available at a ticket booth on campus, likely near The Capital Center entrance, and at any of these locations. More than 8,000 are expected to attend. Limited seating will be available; most will have to stand. If you have a Capital I.D., you are encouraged to bring it. It is advisable to bring identification with you, even if it’s not your Capital I.D.

Access to The Capital Center

To allow time to set up and secure of the building, The Capital Center will be closed from 4 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Monday. Athletic events, such as the soccer and volleyball games, will proceed as scheduled. Athletes and coaches will be allowed to access The Capital Center as needed, but only through the Mound Street entrance. Classes scheduled to meet in The Capital Center during that time have been moved to other classroom locations. Students should contact their faculty members for details.

Road closures, parking and shuttle service
Pleasant Ridge Avenue will be closed between Mound Street and Main Street from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, and again from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, to allow the setup crew to load and unload equipment, to secure the area for the arrival and departure of the candidates, and to accommodate satellite trucks.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, the parking lot north of The Capital Center (near Anthony’s Family Pizza) will be closed. The north third of C-lot will be reserved for handicap parking; and visitor parking on Mound Street will be reserved for special guests. The lots will re-open at 4 p.m. Monday.

Because campus parking is limited, students, faculty and staff traveling to campus are encouraged to car-pool, take public transportation, bike or walk to campus, if possible. Event organizers are working to arrange shuttle service to campus from nearby parking locations, including O-lot and the Jewish Community Center.

Security
Those who attend the voter-registration drive and rally must enter The Capital Center through the Mound Street entrance. Metal detectors will be installed, and potentially dangerous items will not be allowed through. No signs of any kind will be permitted.

Capital spirit
All Capital students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and friends are encouraged to wear purple! All eyes will be on Capital University, so show your Capital pride and wear your purple.
