CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio – The Capital men’s golf team played its way to a second place finish out of five teams at its own 36-hole Capital Fall Invitational on Saturday played at Westchester Golf Club.
Host Capital was just six shots back of team champion Heidelberg (457) while beating out Wilmington by eight shots (471) and Northwestern Ohio by nine shots (472).
Sophomore Nate Delong (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm HS) led the Crusaders by tying for third place individually. He shot a 74 in the first round followed by a 37 on the final nine holes for a total of 111, which was only four shots behind individual leader Kevin Lenhart of Heidelberg.
Junior James Koon (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) was two shots back of Delong at 113. He tied for sixth place after carding a 76 in the first round and 37 in the closing nine.
Classmate Daniel Zaborsky (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto HS) tied for 17th place in a field of 44 golfers by shooting a 79 and 40 to total 119 in 36 holes of action.
Sophomore Jordan Flack (Chillicothe, Ohio/Huntington HS) placed 29th after firing a 125 while classmate Chad Thurkettle (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster HS) had a 126 to tie for 30th place.
Three Crusaders competed as individuals with Andy Garcia (Miami, Fla./Palmetto HS) carding a 119 to tie for 17th place, Chas Manning (Granville, Ohio/Granville HS) shooting a 130 to place 35th and Stephen Moller (London, Ohio/Madison Plains HS) finishing 39th with a score of 133.
Capital returns to action next weekend at the two-day Muskingum Invitational held at Eaglesticks Golf Club.
