It's always been important to exercise wisely and make smart health decisions. But now the demand for health, fitness and sports professionals is especially strong.
We've designed a range of degree options to equip you for the competitive and expanding field of allied health and wellness.
Majors and Programs that Support Your Career Goals
Capital's Health and Sport Sciences department consists of five majors:
- Athletic Training, a major that prepares you to work one-on-one with amateur, college or professional athletes; with patients and their doctors in clinical or rehabilitation settings; or with athletic club members
- Health Education, an education major that prepares you to teach health-related topics like nutrition and drug prevention in school or community settings.
- Physical Education, an education major that prepares you to teach students to be physically active through lifetime activities, such as sports, games, dance and aquatics.
- Health and Fitness Management, a business-focused major that prepares you for careers that do not necessarily require graduate study, from working at a fitness facility to starting and running a facility of your own
- Exercise Science, a science- and research-focused major that's an ideal stepping-stone to advanced study in exercise physiology or biomechanics.
The Health and Sport Sciences department also has a curriculum designed for students interetsed in pre-physical therapy:
- Pre-Physical Therapy, a concentration that you pair with athletic training, exercise science or biology to prepare for doctoral study and physical therapy licensure
A Blend of Classes and Hands-On Experiences
The core classes for each major give you a basic understanding of key concepts, from physiology to psychology and even math and business.
But in health and sport sciences, much of what you need to know can't be taught in the classroom. So you get strong internship or practicum experiences with every major in our department. You will graduate with a knowledge that is both theoretical and practical.

With many certifications and years of practical and teaching experience, the Health and Sport Sciences faculty is highly qualified to show you the most effective techniques.
