DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital women’s and men’s cross country teams made a quality effort against stiff competition at the 2008 All-Ohio Championships held at Delaware Golf Club on Friday afternoon.
The Crusader women finished 14th out of 19 teams while the CU men were 14th out of 20 teams in the NCAA Division III competition.
Senior Shelly Gaines (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing HS) finished 24th out of all DIII women’s competitors with a time of 20:24.0. She was followed by Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) in 84th position who finished at 21:59.7 and Kara Baker (Bellevue, Ohio/Sandusky Perkins HS) who crossed the line in 22:12.3 to place 89th.
Lindsay Dearth (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) was 96th as she recorded a time of 22:42.6 for Capital. Three other Crusaders were grouped closely behind as Corrine Salva (Mt. Vernon, Ohio/Fredericktown HS) was 112th (25:04.0), Amy Shaw (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland HS) placed 114th (25:36.7) and Marissa Snyder (Montpelier, Ohio/Montpelier HS) finished 116th (25:50.2).
Senior Bryan DeArdo (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) paced the Capital men once again as he placed 53rd amongst DIII competitors with a time of 28:14.3. He was followed by Nate Wirrig (North Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County HS) in 71st position at 28:57.0.
Joel Eversole (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly HS) and Alex Moore (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) placed 85th and 92nd respectively for the CU men. Eversole finished with a time of 29:20.9 while Moore tallied a 29:32.1.
The trio of Emerson Rhoad (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville HS) (110th place, 30:49.1), Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS) (112th, 31:10.8) and Conrad Booth (Dutch Harbor, Alk./Unalaska HS) (124th, 33:35.6) closed out the group of Crusader competitiors.
Capital will return to action next Friday at the Wilmington Invitational.
