WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Visiting Capital rallied for a hard-fought 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball play on Friday night. With the victory, CU improved to 19-5 overall and 3-2 in OAC action.
Junior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) took over the match for the Crusaders as she led all players with a .515 hitting percentage and 20 kills to go along with three blocks.
Overall, Capital out hit Otterbein by a count of .266 to .230 including a .364 to .229 margin in the final set. Senior Kara Guster (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville HS) dished out 25 assists and seven digs while Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) added 19 assists and 11 digs in a winning effort.
The trio of Kelly Steineman (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen HS), Jackie Helm (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic HS) and Sarah Gallik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston HS) provided offensive support for the Crusaders on the night. Steineman finished with nine kills while hitting at a .529 rate. Helm added seven kills, 13 digs and four blocks while Gallik finished with seven kills of her own.
Junior libero Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) paced the back row with 19 digs for Capital, which returns to action on Saturday with a tri-match at Denison. The Crusaders will face host Denison at 1 p.m. ET and Wooster at 3 p.m. ET.
