COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University volleyball team swept Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) on Tuesday night. The Crusaders have now won eight of their last nine matches to build a 22-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in OAC play.
Capital was paced by double-doubles from seniors Jackie Helm (Fisher, Ohio/Lancaster Catholic HS) and Kara Guster (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville HS). Helm hit .400 to post 10 kills, 10 digs and one service aces. Guster finished with 14 digs and 15 assists to help the Crusaders build a .245 to .060 advantage in hitting percentage.
Junior Laura Wichman (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon HS) led all players with 15 digs as CU held JCU to an .067 team hitting percentage in the opening set and an .023 mark in the third set. She also joined Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) with one service ace and junior Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) with two service aces on the night.
Zumberger added 14 assists to aid the Capital offense that was supported by nine kills from senior Kelly Steineman (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen HS).
The Crusaders will take a week off before playing host to Marietta in an OAC match at the Capital Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
