COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University’s volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 8 Ohio Northern University (17-25, 14-25, 13-25) in both teams’ Ohio Athletic Conference regular season finale Saturday at The Capital Center.
The Crusaders (24-8, 5-4 OAC) finished fifth in the regular season standings and will play at fourth-seed Mount Union College in the OAC Tournament quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Alliance.
Capital managed just an .072 hitting percentage in the match, while Ohio Northern hit .299, had 10 service aces and 58 digs.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Gallik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston HS) led Capital with eight kills, while senior Jackie Helm (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic HS) and junior Jenifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson HS) each tallied six kills. Senior setter Kara Guster (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville HS) had a team-high 14 assists and 12 digs.
Helm’s 10 digs put her over 2,000 for her career. Already the school’s all-time leader in digs, she has 2,009 digs in her four seasons. She also ranks sixth on the school’s all-time list with 133 service aces as she tallied three against the Polar Bears.
