COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Crusader men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball teams will be taking part in their respective Ohio Athletic Conference Tournaments this week with hopes of earning automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament.
Capital men’s soccer (13-4-1, 7-1-1 OAC) won the OAC Regular Season Championship for the second straight year and will have home field advantage throughout the OAC Tournament. CU will also have the advantage of a First Round bye and will begin Tournament play on Wednesday playing host to the winner of the Heidelberg-Marietta matchup at 2 p.m. ET. The Crusaders defeated fifth-seeded Heidelberg 3-1 in Tiffin, Ohio on Oct. 28. Capital also beat Marietta, 4-3 in double overtime at Bernlohr Stadium on Oct. 18. If CU wins on Wednesday, it would play host to the OAC Championship Match on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Crusader women’s soccer team (10-6-2, 5-4-0 OAC) earned the No. 4 seed in the OAC Tournament and will begin its quest for a third consecutive OAC Tourney Championship in a First Round meeting with fifth-seeded John Carroll on Tuesday at Bernlohr Stadium beginning at 2 p.m. ET. CU will be looking for revenge for a 1-0 loss at the hands of JCU in the conference opener for both teams on Oct. 3 in University Heights, Ohio. A win on Tuesday would send the Crusaders into the OAC Semifinals at top-seeded Otterbein at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday. The OAC Women’s Soccer Championship Match will take place on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Admission will be charged for all OAC Soccer matches (both home and away). Adult tickets will be $5 while non-OAC student tickets are $2. OAC Students from any school will be admitted for FREE with a valid student ID. OAC brown passes are not valid for the tournament. FREE Live Stats will also be available for every Crusader home soccer match throughout OAC Tournament play at www.CapitalCrusaders.net.
Capital volleyball (24-8, 5-4 OAC) finished fifth in the OAC regular season standings and will head to fourth-seeded Mount Union for its OAC Quarterfinal Match on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. The Crusaders were swept by the Purple Raiders in Alliance earlier this season, but a one more win would give CU its sixth 25-win campaign in the past seven years and a berth in the OAC Semifinal round against either top-seeded Ohio Northern or Otterbein on Friday evening. The OAC Championship Match will take place on Saturday afternoon at a site that will be determined at the end of Tuesday’s Quarterfinal round.
Admission for the OAC Quarterfinal Round at Mount Union will be $5 for adults and $2 for non-OAC Students. For the semifinals on Friday, admission shall be $8.00 for adults and $2.00 for non-OAC students. On Saturday the admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for non-OAC students. OAC students are admitted free of charge with valid ID. OAC brown passes are not valid for the tournament.
Capital University is one of just three schools in the Ohio Athletic Conference to be taking part in the OAC men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball tournaments this week.
