WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women’s and men’s cross country teams ended their 2008 seasons with 27th and 28th place finishes respectively at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Otterbein College.
The Capital women were 27th out of 34 teams and were paced by senior Shelly Gaines (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing HS) who was 85th in a field of 233 participants after recording a time of 24:40.34.
Kara Baker (Bellevue, Ohio/Sandusky Perkins HS) and Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) followed closely behind with times of 25:33.42 and 25:41.23 respectively.
Senior Lindsay Dearth (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) crossed the line at 26:43.83 to place 179th while senior Amy Shaw (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland HS) was 214th after recording a time of 29:10.43.
The duo of Marissa Snyder (Montpelier, Ohio/Montpelier HS) and Jaqueline Sweitochowski (Des Plaines, Ohio/Maine West HS) closed out the group of Crusader finishers by finishing 225th and 227th respectively. Snyder had a time of 30:51.48 while fellow freshman counterpart recorded a 31:23.34.
The Capital men placed 28th out of 34 teams behind the performance of senior Bryan DeArdo (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) who finished 70th out of 240 runners with a time of 26:28.75.
Sophomore Nathan Wirrig (North Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County HS) followed with a time of 27:47.26 to place 159th while Alex Moore was 168th after crossing the line in 28:02.20.
The next three Crusaders followed in pack that saw junior Joel Eversole (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly HS) finish in 200th place with a time of 28:56.17. Sophomore Emerson Rhoad (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville HS) was 210th in a time of 29:19.32 and senior Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS) was just behind at 29:24.72 to finish in 212th position.
Freshman Conrad Booth (Dutch Harbor, Alk./Unalaska City HS) closed out the group of Crusader finishers with a time of 32:12.94 to place 235th.
